Green synthesis offers an environmentally sustainable alternative to conventional chemical methods for the production of silver nanoparticles. In the present study, an aqueous leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum was employed as a biological reducing and stabilizing agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The study was conducted in the Department of Botany, CCR College, Muzaffarnagar, in collaboration with BIO-COSMOS Lab, Meerut, during 2025–2026. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using UV–visible spectroscopy and agarose gel electrophoresis. The appearance of a characteristic surface plasmon resonance peak near 420 nm was used to confirm nanoparticle formation, while agarose gel electrophoresis was used to investigate nanoparticle–DNA interactions and their potential effects on DNA integrity. The findings are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the role of O. sanctum phytochemicals in the bioreduction and stabilization of silver nanoparticles and to support the development of safer, plant-mediated nanomaterials.
